Biokinetic Models for Radium and Uranium
These models are solved here using the ACTLITE code which is run from the next page. Three cases are considered for each element: 1) direct uptake of 1 unit to blood, 2) acute ingestion of 1 unit, and 3) acute inhalation of 1 unit. The chemical form of the ingested material is such that the fractional absorption from the gastrointestinal tract is 0.2 for radium and 0.02 for uranium. The inhalation cases are evaluated using the lung model of ICRP Publication 66, assuming absorption Type M with an AMAD of one micron. One or more compartments of the model can be selected for a given case and the content of the compartment as a function of time after intake can be viewed as either a tabulation or a graph.
