Approved DOE Technical Standard (DOE-STD-1153-2002) and RAD-BCG Calculator (Release 2.0)

The final, approved DOE Technical Standard, A Graded Approach for Evaluating Radiation Doses to Aquatic and Terrestrial Biota (DOE-STD-1153-2002) and the RAD-BCG Calculator (Release 2.0; a companion tool for use with the DOE Technical Standard) are approved for public release and can be downloaded from this location. A DOE transmittal memorandum regarding the availability and release of this approved Technical Standard can also be downloaded.

The Technical Standard provides methods and guidance within a graded or tiered framework for use in demonstrating protection of biota (plants and animals) from potential effects of ionizing radiation. The graded approach can be used to address a variety of assessment scenarios and needs, to include demonstrating compliance relative to dose rate guidelines, and conducting ecological risk assessments of radiological impact.

To download, simply click on the document file titles and follow the instructions. General comments on these materials can be provided via the "Feedback" link at the top of this page. Detailed comments, suggestions or lessons learned from implementation of the graded approach, or requests for further information or guidance should be directed to Stephen Domotor, U.S Department of Energy.
