Idaho National Laboratory

This re-enactment of the 160th anniversary of pioneers making their way through Goodale's Cutoff was staged in 1994 at the Idaho National Laboratory (INL) in Idaho. Goodale's Cutoff crosses the southwest corner of INL as a northern spur of the Oregon Trail.

The Experimental Breeder Reactor is a National Historic Landmark at the Idaho National Laboratory. It was the first nuclear reactor to:

• produce electricity for peaceful uses in 1951,
• demonstrate the feasibility of breeding nuclear fuel in 1953,
• self-sustain a chain reaction using plutonium in 1963, and
• use high-temperature liquid metal as a reactor coolant.
