Document: Description of the Mathematical Phantom

This resource provides a complete description of the mathematical phantom series currently used at ORNL in the development of age- and gender-specific dosimetric information. The manuscript is patterned after appendix A of the report ORNL/TM-8381 by M. Cristy but it includes all subsequent modifications to the phantom introduced in later ORNL works. These modifications include, for example, refinements in the head and neck model and the addition of an esophagus. The equations describing the various body parts and organs are presented as well as other data of interest to those wishing to implement the models in Monte Carlo radiation transport calculations.
